What we offer

At Thomas Telford School we offer a full and varied swimming programme. From Learn to Swim right the way through to Swim Squad. Also incorporating other water based activities such as Water Polo and Fun Swim and working on water confidence for our weaker less able swimmers. We cater for all abilities of swimmers, from none swimmers through to National standard, with the fundamental core values of our PE swimming lessons being to improve every swimmer, whatever their standard

Competitions

Swimmers have various opportunities to represent the school throughout their time here. From competing in local level gala’s against Telford Schools, through to The County Swimming Championships held here at Thomas Telford. The pinnacle of our competitive season is the ESSA National Schools Relay Championship, held every year at the Olympic Pool in London. Qualification is always very tough, but we have a superb record at Thomas Telford School of teams qualifying on a regular basis for this prestigious event.

Facilities

We have a 6 lane 25m deck level pool with competition starting blocks. We have Omega Electronic Timing that allows us to host events to County standard and beyond. The pool is 1.2m deep in the shallow end down to 3.0m in the deep end, allowing for various activities with diving popular.

Session 3 opportunities

We run a very varied Session 3 programme over the whole of the school week. We have Swim Squad for our advanced swimmers, with an early morning session available as well. We run a Water Polo club for swimmers of all abilities. Learn to Swim is available for all years but is mainly taken up by new students in Year 7. Lastly, we run a superbly successful Fun Swim session once a week open to all years., with inflatable toys and rafts available for students to relax and unwind in the pool once a week.

Recent Success

Qualification for the ESSA National Schools Relay Championship held in London is the aim of our most advanced swimmers. Over the last few years we have had tremendous success particularly with the Senior Squads, Years 11, 6.1 and 6.2.

We are regularly one of the top performing schools at the County Swimming Championships, which allows the students to perform in individual events. We have had countless gold, silver and bronze medals over the past few years and students both past and present hold County Records set at this event. We also host these Championships here on an annual basis.
