Cross Country

What we offer

At Thomas Telford School our cross-country programme is both well established and popular with students from all year groups. Our regular weekly running club caters for students of all abilities and prepares them for competitions that take place across the year. Our Running club utilises the fantastic local running routes we have surrounding the school such as the Town Park and the Wrekin.

Competitions

Cross-country competitions start in September with Years 7 to 11 taking part in the 4 race Telford District series, a popular programme of events that take part over 4 consecutive weeks to introduce students to Cross-country.

During the first term our teams will take part in the ESAA Cross-country cup qualifying races, and the regional cross-country cup that allows teams to qualify for the National competition later in the year.

Post-Christmas we take teams to the Shropshire Schools Cross country championships, the Shropshire County championships and the prestigious King Henry VIII relays in Coventry.

Over the course of the season we always look for new competitions and incorporate training sessions to prepare our teams for these events.

Facilities

During running club we make use of the great local running routes and take students to such venues as the Town Park, the Wrekin and Apley Woods.

Recent Success

Cross country is one of Thomas Telford School’s most successful sports with students representing their respective counties in a range of competitions with some going on to represent England and Great Britain. In 2019/2020 our teams were crowned Telford and District Cross country Champions, Regional Cross Country Champions and sent 2 teams to the National Schools Cross country cup. At the County championships we had top 3 teams in most age groups with winning teams in the junior, Inter and senior girl’s categories being the highlights as well as individual county champions.
