The State of the Art Fitness Centre at Thomas Telford School has been open since 2007. The facility offers fitness training equipment by leading manufacturer, Technogym which incorporates their unique Wellness System. The Technogym Wellness System tracks, monitors and reports fitness progression for all users of the fitness centre, so enabling them to analyse the effectiveness of their exercise routine. In addition the system motivates and educates on the use of the equipment. As a result, our Director of Fitness is able to personalise training programmes for our staff and students to suit their aims and goals.
The Fitness Centre is open to students in Years 7 - 6th Form and also to staff. Students from KS3 and KS4 take part in a wide variety of sessions in the Fitness Centre, including Circuit sessions, High Intensity Interval Training sessions and Weight Training sessions. A popular addition to the fitness centre is the "Spin" class. These classes offer an intensive cardio workout which are instructor led for both staff and students.
The Fitness Centre is open for 6th Form between 1.00pm to 3.20pm on Wednesdays. We have also included a women’s only hour on Wednesdays between 11.40am-12.40pm. Timetabled 6th Form sessions are included for students following both the A-Level Physical Education and BTEC Sport courses. Alongside of this, all students in the sixth form are also able to use the Fitness Centre in their Independent Learning Centre (ILC) time, and this is extremely popular for a number of students.
All students are able to use the Fitness Centre during 'session 3', which runs from 3.30pm – 5:00pm Monday – Thursday.
Staff are also able to use the Fitness Centre between 5.00pm – 6.00pm Monday – Thursday.
