Thomas Telford School football offers a full competitive programme for all boys and girls throughout the school. We strive to see every player that wants to represent the school given the opportunity to play, through offering multiple teams for all our Year groups.
We have a Thomas Telford School Sports Academy for 6th Form students studying a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport, where both internal and external students can apply to join. This is open to both boys and girls.
Matches are recorded for analysis via the Veo platform to help player’s individual understanding of matches and training sessions. Matches are also recorded by our media so that we can help to develop player’s skills and techniques when preparing for key competitions. Match analysis takes place when required during session 3 after 3.30pm.
Students attending the Football Academy will have opportunities to progress both academically and also in the sporting / leisure field. There are various possibilities open to students as they progress through the Academy such as: entrance to University to study a sport related degree, direct employment in the leisure industry or a career in football either as a full time professional or semi-professional.
We have created links with leading UK sports agencies that offer students the opportunity to play football in the USA while they continue working towards an internationally recognised university degree, and currently have several players playing and studying in America. Whether you choose to pursue a career in soccer or in a different field of expertise, a soccer scholarship will help provide a platform to future success.
Thomas Telford School is extremely proud to have helped several players into Professional and Semi Professional football whilst spending time within the Football Academy.
Training sessions are delivered by UEFA A and B licensed coaches and will be geared towards developing students' tactical and technical awareness of the game. All students will receive comprehensive fitness related programmes and nutritional guidelines from trained professionals and have access to qualified sports therapists. All aspects of football is studied including match analysis, strength and conditioning and individual mentoring.
There are regular visits to St George's Park; the English Football Association's national football centre for coaching sessions with PFA members as part of their coach education.
We offer a football tour to Villareal every 2 years for Years 8 and 9 and are hoping that we are able to go to New York in July 2022 with the 6th Formers to showcase their talents for any students wishing to further their studies and play in America
We have age group sessions for each age group during the week as well as having individual, open to all players and individual team training sessions
Thomas Telford School has a proven record in the English Schools FA competitions with over 50 National titles in their history. The 6th Form Football Academy is incredibly proud to have reached the final of the prestigious ESFA under 18 competitions with their students.During the 2016-17 Season Thomas Telford School, boys and girls teams reached an incredible 13 National Finals winning 9 of them. This feat is destined never to be matched by any other school and something we are incredibly proud to have achieved.
