Basketball

What we offer

Thomas Telford has a rich history of basketball performance and competition. Most Thomas Telford School basketball players play in local or regional teams outside of school which prepares them for the competitive fixtures in the Shropshire County Schools Basketball Leagues. Our basketball club allows players to further develop their skills, knowledge and tactical understanding. Lucas McGregor (Alumni) is one of our former students, now playing in the BBL for Worcester Wolves.

Competitions

The Shropshire County Basketball League runs from Christmas to Easter with all year groups playing competitive league-based fixtures against schools form across Shropshire. Fixtures are competitive, but for the younger age groups it is more focused on player development. Thomas Telford School also takes part in the Telford and District Schools competitions and we aspire to enter the National Jr. NBA League.

Facilities

  • Full indoor basketball court
  • External practice court area for recreational use and practice
  • Use of fitness centre and swimming pool to develop fitness

Session 3 opportunities

Extra-curricular basketball club takes place once a week and is available for anyone to attend, regardless of experience. Session 3 is designed to be fun, but also developmental with the ultimate aim of developing better players and igniting an interest which students can follow by joining their local clubs. Students can also hone in their shooting skills at lunch time with the newly installed basketball hoops on the school playground.

We are looking to develop our Basketball programme during 2021/22 and will be working closely with local coaches and teams to provide more support to students with a keen interest in the sport.
