Students aiming for Oxbridge

Mon, 17 Jan 2022

On Friday last week, we were delighted to host Dr Matthias Dörrzapf from St John’s College, Cambridge who spoke to some of our 6.1 students about studying at Cambridge University.  He described in some detail the unique style of education on offer at one of the most prestigious universities in the world and encouraged students to start developing their ability to think critically about topics and to push their learning beyond what they are being taught at school.  He also spoke to the students who are considering studying maths at university about the breadth of the Cambridge course and the opportunities to combine it with subjects such as management studies.

It’s great to see so many 6.1 students aspiring for top universities this year. We have several Thomas Telford students who are currently studying at Oxford and Cambridge and we really do encourage all students to be aspirational in their universities choices and to aim high. The Oxbridge preparation programme for 6.1 students continues next month with a trip to Oxford University on 8th February.

A big thank you to Dr Matthias Dörrzapf for giving up his time to visit Thomas Telford!
