Insight into Pharmacy

This week’s MedSoc focused on careers within pharmacy and students welcomed Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust’s Deputy Chief Pharmacist Hayley Pearson who spoke to students about her role and the challenges of working within the NHS. Hayley was joined by her brother Jacob, a former Thomas Telford student who is now the Lead Pharmacy technician at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals. Both Hayley and Jacob gave students a fascinating insight into their roles and really opened their eyes to the wide variety of careers within pharmacy. The session started with a great quiz which challenged students to guess the costs of widely prescribed medicines and also included ‘A day in the life’ discussion which showed how pharmacists work with other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
