Message from the Headmaster

Over the past twenty years, Thomas Telford School has built up a reputation for outstanding examination results, making it one of the most successful schools in the country. Its academic success is also matched with exceptional achievements in Sport and the Performing Arts.

Much of the information contained in this prospectus relates to achievements in 2019 rather than 2020 and 2021. This is because like all other schools in England Covid-19 struck a huge blow to our daily routines impacting upon every aspect of what we previously took for granted pre March 2020.

More than ever we are now determined to do our very best for every young person who attends the school, including those who join us in future years, to regain any lost progress academically through catch up programmes where needed. Through the eventual resumption of sport, performance and cultural experiences we aspire to build up the confidence of all students to ensure that any lost confidence is rapidly covered. The health, including mental health, well-being and safety of our students remains a high priority on our journey to deliver what is often described as a ‘new normal’ for the future.

Our values at the School remain a high priority and these include involving parents to participate in supporting their children on their educational journey. Bullying will not be tolerated and our students share their success stories without fear of being ridiculed. All our success stories are championed and you will glean further information and understanding about the type of school that we are by reading through this prospectus and navigating your way around the school web site.

Everyone involved with Thomas Telford School knows what is expected of them and enjoys being part of a very successful team. The staff work very hard indeed and gain much satisfaction from supporting students to succeed. We are a happy school that celebrates success in all its forms and it all seems so worthwhile when you witness the expression of achievement on the faces of the students.

From the day that students arrive they will regularly hear the expression “Once a Thomas Telford student always a Thomas Telford student”. What this means is that they can come back to us anytime in their life for help, advice, support or just to share their joyful moments with us.
