STEM Careers Talk

Tue, 14 Jun 2022

On Tuesday 14th June, Year 9 students were given the opportunity to meet Officer Ben Brierley, an ex-student from TTS.

The talk was extremely insightful, as Ben spoke about the career path he took to get to where he is now. He has been working for the RAF since 2013 and has been a Class A Flight Test Engineer on Eurofighter Typhoon since 2019.

Alongside showing us demonstrations of managing live weapons testing in the Californian desert, he explained the career structure within the military as has experienced various jobs and had opportunity to gain various qualifications on exercise.

He also spoke about the relevance of maths and science subjects that have helped him pursue his interests.

The students were really well engaged and asked some super questions – it was evident that some had watched the recent Top Gun movie as were asking about his call signs!

Finally, Ben advised students that do have an interest in pursuing careers linked to the military that they should speak to the Careers team or visit their local AFCO (Armed Forces Careers Office).

Thanks again to Ben Brierley and to Mrs Wright for hosting the event. We look forward to welcoming him again in future.
