Engineering Taster Visit

Mon, 04 Apr 2022

On Monday 4th April, a group of 6.1 Design and Technology students visited In-Comm training services in Stafford Park to learn about the types of engineering apprenticeships they offer and take part in some engineering taster activities. During the visit the students took a tour of the workshop, observing the toolmaking, milling, and welding facilities available, and they then designed, built, and tested a mechanical device for lifting and moving a ball using their knowledge of fluid power, moments, and levers.

The staff at In-Comm marvelled at how each group communicated and worked effectively in teams, maintained calm under pressure, and showed excellent problem-solving skills. During the judging process, each group articulated their design ideas fantastically, however there could only be one winner… Well done to Tobias and Aaron for their innovative and creative design!

Students then had opportunity to speak to some Level 3 apprentices, who explained the application process and gave students an idea about what life as an apprentice at In-Comm is like. Thank you to Leanne and her colleagues for such an informative and interesting taster day.
