Year 7 Visit to Jaguar Land Rover

Thu, 10 Jan 2019

A group of Year 7 students joined the Careers Team on a visit to the Jaguar Land Rover Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, to learn more about careers in Engineering.

The students toured the Manufacturing and Assembly factories, observing how high performance diesel and petrol engines are produced for the company’s famous cars and then exploring the importance of maintaining a clean factory during an interactive workshop. The students examined examples of contamination under a microscope, before calculating the extent of the contamination and then informing the test laboratory of their findings.

The afternoon session saw the students calculating the hardness of plastic and rubber engine components, using a Durometer and recording the comparative results in bar charts, helping them to understand how their maths studies link directly to the workplace.

The students all worked brilliantly on the challenges posed during the day and really enjoyed the visit. The Careers Team were very pleased to see the students working together and posing some intelligent and thoughtful questions to the JLR staff both about future career opportunities and how the business is managing in a very competitive market.

Well done Year 7!
