We Will Rock YouMon, 22 Apr 2013They say that the best things in life are worth waiting for and this certainly proved to be the case when it comes to the recent Thomas Telford School Production of 'We Will Rock You', which promised to be a true rock extravaganza! After the disappointment of having to postpone the show due to the adverse weather we experienced before Easter, it was with great anticipation and excitement that we awaited the premier of this fantastic and fun show, which revels in some of the best music ever created by the mighty Queen! The production certainly lived up to the hype and on Sunday 14th April, the show opened to a packed theatre where the audience was treated to an evening of show-stopping vocal performances and expertly choreographed dance routines. The students were thoroughly convincing in their roles as ‘Bohemians’ on a quest to discover the hidden instruments of the ‘Golden Age of Rock’, and the ‘Baddies’ in the ‘Global Soft’ corporation (along with the Ga Ga Girls), who were determined to stop them. This story was brilliantly performed by all and was made all the more believable with the excellent work carried out by the technical crew and the staging staff. A Queen musical would simply not be the same without the ‘rocking’ music and our band did not disappoint. Their enthusiasm and talent complemented that of the students on stage, making for a magical mix and adding to the electrifying atmosphere felt around the theatre. Over the course of the four nights our students performed to just over 1200 audience members – which makes this is our best-selling show EVER!!!! Audiences were keen to show their appreciation of the show and each performance was met with a standing ovation in recognition for the hard work and effort of all those who took part. The standard of the shows that are staged and produced each year keeps on getting better and there is, as you can imagine, a great deal of hard work that goes in to each and every production. There are many people who contributed to the amazing success of ‘We Will Rock You’ this year and we, the staff and students, are so proud of what they have achieved here at Thomas Telford School. Thank you, too, to all those who have taken time to e-mail in with messages about the show. Here are some examples of the ‘reviews’ “Congratulation on a stunning show. We have seen the show in London and were stunned at the ability of the pupils to convey passion and humour whilst singing and dancing too. There were some amazing singers and actors- and the band were completely beyond belief…………… all backed up by great dancing. The whole evening was fantastic- I caught myself sitting smiling at how fab it was during the first half- the second half I just stood and sung along and clapped! Well done to everyone involved- it was a Triumph and you should all be really proud of yourselves”.
