 Businees Studies Teacher

A committed professional is sought to join a successful team of six specialists to continue the development of Business Education throughout the school. A relevant degree or a degree with a PGCE is a key requirement for this post.

The school is very successful and attracts a great deal of attention however, the focus remains on the quality of teaching and learning experienced by our students. In the OFSTED Report January 2001, Inspectors reported that ‘Thomas Telford is an excellent school. The standard of pupils’ work is very high. Teaching is of the highest quality and all that the school does is designed to help pupils make the most of their opportunities….a school where teachers, pupils and students share a love of learning and where pupils and students strive to do their best.’ The Business Education Department was graded as “outstanding” in its recent HMI inspection in terms of provision, teaching and results.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team in a well-resourced Department. There is scope for an experienced candidate to take on responsibility within the Department for an area such as overseeing the GCSE course (340 students in Years 10 & 11) or to implement and oversee the BTEC National qualification.

All students study Business at Key Stage 4 following AQA Specification B with coursework. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in Business as a key part of the curriculum for all students.

Business is also a popular option Post 16, with 100% of students achieving A-C grades on both AG Business and Applied courses. In September, the Department is implementing the new A Level Specifications (AQA) and will also be introducing the BTEC National Business qualification.

Additionally, the department plays a key role in the Enterprise week in July by running a range of Enterprise activities and Business games. It has close links with many local companies and seeks to enhance the curriculum with vocational experiences as much as possible.

All team members contribute to the on-going development of a vocationally based online curriculum and facilities are excellent. They include an open plan Learning Base with 3 interactive whiteboards, as well as specialised study areas that include independent learning facilities. The successful candidate must embrace the concept of flexible team teaching and will have the opportunity to further develop in-depth ICT skills. Industry links are well established and the curriculum is constantly enhanced with meaningful, vocational examples including speakers and visits.  Enterprise underpins the Business curriculum and all staff input into its continued development.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated specialist to join a talented and successful team of professionals involved in developments at the leading edge of Business Education.
